Google Adds Links to AI Overviews in Search Results
Discover how Google has optimized its AI Overviews with direct links to search results, improving the user experience.
Google officially announced a new feature that integrates links into its Google AI Overviews, connecting users directly to new search results. This innovation aims to make it easier for users to explore topics and discover relevant websites. When users click the underlined links in AI-generated summaries, they are immediately redirected to a new Google search optimized for their specific queries.
According to a Google spokesperson, the feature was designed to improve the user experience by helping people find relevant information more quickly and with fewer steps. The initiative is part of Google's ongoing efforts to improve how it connects content, similar to existing features such as “People also search for.”
How does it work? Links embedded in AI Overviews appear both at the top and in the middle of the summary, leading users to a broader range of information. While links to third-party websites remain a priority, the emphasis is now on providing direct links to Google search results when considered useful to the user.

Features of the New Link System
The addition of this feature reflects Google's understanding of user behavior. Users often performed additional searches for specific terms mentioned in AI summaries. This not only saves users the effort of entering new queries, but also substantially improves the efficiency of each search. Google Prioritizes Reliable Results. During testing, Google found that directing users straight to results pages, especially when third parties make significant contributions to the information being sought, has proved effective. The feature is currently available to users in the United States, in English, on both mobile devices and desktop computers.Read also: What is digital accessibility?
