How to Increase Your Email Marketing Click-Through Rate
If your email marketing isn't delivering the results you expect, check out these 10 tips and learn how to increase your email marketing click-through rate.

Tip 1: Never buy an email list

Buying email lists is definitely a bad idea and can damage your site's reputation. Earn your leads and send emails to users who have given you permission and who you know.

Tip 2: Be careful with images

Sending an email marketing message with only an image in the body is the worst thing you can do! Practically all email services will block it by default, and your campaign's effectiveness will drop significantly. Of course, you could also be labeled a SPAMMER. To avoid this, take the following precautions when creating your email marketing campaign:
  • Always use HTML format and organize the content with text as the priority, using images only when necessary;
  • Avoid large images. They will take a long time to load and could disrupt your email's layout;
  • Always add ALT tags to your images to describe what they show;
  • Always add links to images;

Tip 3: Diversify your emails

Create different types of email marketing messages for different occasions, for example:
  • Special occasions: Holidays and your customer's birthday;
  • Newsletters: News about your industry or company;
  • Promotions: Announce offers or promotional coupons;
  • Lead nurturing: Create content based on your customer's buying journey and your inbound marketing strategy;

Tip 4: Don't send emails too often

This is a common mistake among companies, especially those just getting started with Inbound Marketing. Flooding your customer's inbox with message after message is a fatal mistake. Find the right sending frequency to keep your customer engaged without becoming a nuisance.

Tip 5: Personalize

Whenever possible, personalize emails with the name of the person receiving them. This can lead to a significant increase in clicks.

Tip 6: Write compelling subject lines

After deliverability, the second conversion point in an email marketing campaign is whether the email is opened. The subject line is one of the main factors that determine whether someone opens an email. Write subject lines that make users curious, so they find it almost impossible not to open your message. According to research, the subject line and trust in the sender have an average of 2 to 3 seconds to capture a user's interest and get them to open the message. More tips for your email subject line:
  • Ideally, your subject line should be no longer than 23 characters;
  • The first word of the subject line is the most important;
  • Avoid using words such as click here, mailmkt, credit, free, course, from/to your company, promotion, and “$$$” in the subject line;
  • Avoid writing subject lines in all caps;

Tip 7: Create relevant content

To increase CTR (Click Through Rate), or the number of clicks in relation to the number of emails sent, create emails with relevant content: information that grabs users' attention and encourages them to take the desired call to action.

Tip 8: Less is more

Time is our most precious asset, so get straight to the point when creating an email marketing campaign. Don't waste users' time. Only send an email if you have something interesting to say, keep it brief, and include only the essentials.

Tip 9: Segment your list

Segment your contact list and create targeted emails for each segment, for example:
  • By company type;
  • By type of service they subscribe to;
  • By region;
  • etc.

Tip 10: Run A/B tests

Create two or more versions of the same campaign and send them to small groups of email addresses to test how well the campaign performs. The email that gets the best response should be sent to all the potential recipients in your campaign.
