In this article, we’ll share some negotiation strategies that can make a difference when negotiating with a client or supplier. The goal is to reduce the financial impact for both parties by using strategies such as showing clients the opportunities offered by Digital Marketing, expanding or reducing the scope of services, changing contract payment terms for a limited time, protecting cash flow, and highlighting the importance of new initiatives that could form the basis of a new business.

A strong relationship with the client and direct access to the C-level will be decisive during negotiations. This loyalty and relationship only bring advantages, such as the trust built over time, which makes it easier to close new projects and increase your income.

It’s important to make clients aware that investing in brands’ digital presence is the way forward right now. New strategies such as an e-commerce site, a new website, an app and other tools can help save businesses at this time. The digitalization of the economy is becoming a way for many to survive.

Another point to consider is offering new services beyond the scope of work. Instead of reducing the services provided, assess each client individually and see what can be implemented to help them, improve their communications and even strengthen their brand positioning in the market. Small initiatives often inspire and deliver significant results, creating new opportunities.

If a reduction in the contract is necessary, set a time limit. Don’t leave it open-ended, as this shouldn’t become the new normal after the crisis. These reductions should only apply until the economy recovers.

Protecting your cash flow is essential, so negotiate to maintain some of the payment and collection timelines. A rule that often works and won’t cause too much strain on your cash flow is a 50% to 50% split. Make your clients understand that we can’t postpone paying salaries and employee benefits.

As you can see, all the strategies mentioned are connected, forming a process to follow. If you put them into practice, your workflow will certainly recover more easily and may even gain momentum during this period of economic hardship.
