![Is Search as We Know It Ending? Decoding the 2026 Consumer](https://vitaminaweb.digital/storage/blog/o-fim-da-busca-como-a-conhecemos-decifrando-o-consumidor-de-2026-ai.webp) In a digital landscape saturated with information, ads and, more recently, the ubiquity of Artificial Intelligence, understanding how Brazilian consumers search and make decisions has become an exceptionally complex task. The e-book "The Search Map in Brazil 2026", a collaboration between Optimiza Marketing and AB Pesquisas, featuring data from Offerwise, offers one of the clearest and most thought-provoking portraits of this new ecosystem. Far from declaring the end of Google, the study reveals a realignment of forces, in which trust has become the most valuable and contested asset. This article sets out to unpack the report's key insights, putting them alongside market data and expert analysis to spark a crucial debate: are we ready for a new era of search, where the right answer matters less than a trustworthy source?

## Google's Unshakable, but Not Unquestioned, Hegemony

The Optimiza study is unequivocal: Google is not just a tool, but a deeply ingrained cultural habit. When asked which platform first comes to mind for researching products or services, 64% of consumers spontaneously answered "Google" . This top-of-mind awareness is a rare phenomenon, far surpassing recall for leading brands in other sectors. In a prompted survey, Google's dominance holds, with 72.4% of users choosing it from the options provided. However, the narrative of absolute dominance is beginning to show cracks. The survey finds that while Google usage rose among nearly half of respondents (48.9%) over the past year, a significant segment, especially Gen Z, is using the platform less often. Why? The promise of better AI-powered answers (34%), a perceived excess of ads (30%), and the speed of social media (29%) . This fragmentation is key to understanding 2026. Google is still the starting point, but the consumer journey unfolds across a multichannel ecosystem, where YouTube, Instagram and marketplaces serve as platforms for deeper exploration, validation and, ultimately, decision-making.

## The Trust Crisis and the Resurrection of Page 2

Perhaps the report's most disruptive insight is the evidence of a profound crisis of trust in sponsored results. The study shows that Brazilian consumers have become more discerning: 82% of users can tell the difference between ads and organic results . More than that, they act on what they know.

| **Consumer Behavior** | **Study Data (Optimiza, 2026)** |
| --- | --- |
| Frequency of ad clicks | 44.1% say they rarely or never click on sponsored links. |
| Browsing beyond the first page | 54.9% of users often go beyond the first page of results. |
| Trust level (Scale of 1-5) | 63% trust organic results (ratings of 4 and 5). |
| Trust level (Scale of 1-5) | 53% trust ads (ratings of 4 and 5). |

These figures debunk one of SEO's oldest myths: that "the best place to hide a body is on the second page of Google." On the contrary, going beyond the first page has become a conscious consumer strategy for escaping ad saturation and finding more impartial answers. Trust in organic content (63%) significantly exceeds trust in ads, which face an outright rejection rate of nearly 20%. This distrust is not an isolated finding. A report by GoAd Media and ABA identifies "winning back trust" as the main marketing challenge for 2026, citing the proliferation of deepfakes and questionable information as catalysts for a more skeptical consumer .

## Social Proof as a Decisive Factor: The End of the Influencer Era?

If trust in ads has declined, who do consumers trust? The study's answer is clear: other consumers. By far, the most influential type of content in purchasing decisions is reviews from other consumers (43.5%). That figure puts short videos (21.5%) behind and, more strikingly, shows that recommendations from digital influencers have just 2.2% direct influence. This finding is backed up by a recent survey from CNDL and SPC Brasil, which found that only 5% of consumers buy something based on a direct recommendation from influencers . The influencer's role, then, seems to have shifted from the bottom to the top of the funnel: influencers matter for product discovery and building desire, but not for the final conversion.

> "Content based on real experience is more influential than institutional messaging. Social proof and practical usefulness, not just the source's authority, shape purchasing decisions." Insight from "Mapa da Busca no Brasil 2026"

**This directly validates Google's E-E-A-T guideline (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness). Users, and the algorithm, are looking for real experience.** Corporate content and paid advertising are losing ground to content that demonstrates real-world use, genuine opinions, and social proof. The takeaway for brands is clear: if your site has no reviews or real-world case studies, it may be invisible to consumers seeking trustworthy information.

## AI and the Future of Search: Complement, Not Replacement

The rise of tools like ChatGPT and Gemini has brought up an inevitable question: will AI replace Google? According to the data, the answer is no, at least for now. The survey shows that AI acts much more as a complement (54.2%) than as a replacement (16.5%) for traditional search. Consumers see AI's main value as its ability to organize information and clarify technical questions (45%), as well as summarize reviews (25%) and offer personalized recommendations (24%) . Trust, however, remains an obstacle. 71% of AI users say they verify answers by searching on Google, and 46% simply don't trust AI enough to follow its advice without checking other sources . **Google, then, is cementing its role as the final validator, the tie-breaker in a world of conflicting information, including information generated by AI.**

## An Invitation to Debate

- For brands: How can you build and earn trust in an ecosystem where traditional advertising is losing its impact? Is it time to invest heavily in review platforms and user-generated content (UGC)?
- For SEO and marketing professionals: With the "resurrection of page 2," does the obsession with ranking first still make sense? Or should the strategy focus on providing the most trustworthy answer, regardless of position?
- For platforms: How will Google balance the need to monetize through ads with growing user distrust? And how can AI tools evolve from information organizers into primary sources people trust?

The stage is set. Search isn't dead, but it has become a fragmented conversation where the real consumer's voice is louder than ever. The question is: are we ready to listen?
